Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday June 1, 2018 at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Chapel for Larry Clyde Buchanan , age, 77, of Gadsden, who passed away on May 29, 2018.  Brother Jerome Mitchell and Brother Ted Elrod will officiate.  Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery.   Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home and Cemetery is in charge of services.

 

Larry (Scootman) will be greatly missed in the Tidmore Bend area.  He never said “No” to anyone who asked for help.  He was a huge Alabama Fan and helped coach them on TV.  Mostly, Larry aka “Paw Paw” loved being with is grand and great grandchildren.  His family was very important to him.  He was a member of North Highland Baptist Church for 31 years, where he served as deacon, teacher and many other jobs.  He was very knowledgeable of the Bible and amazed so many people through the years at the church.  He was a butcher for most of his life working with his dad in the family grocery store Pay and Save.  On retiring he started his own lawn service.

  

He is preceded in death by his parents: Clyde and Maxine Buchanan; first wife: Linda Gail Buchanan and his mother and father-in-law Willie and Josie Parker.

 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Louise Buchanan; sons: John (Diane) Buchanan, Jeff Buchanan, Matt (Leigh) Buchanan, Mike (Vickie) Wilson; daughter: Valerie Balenger; sister: Linda Carter; special niece: Rhonda Milligan; grandchildren: Amy (Josh) Clough, Jennifer Buchanan, Adrianne (Matt) Crane, Karla (Shannon) Horne, Nicole and Rebecca Wilson, and Carter and Olivia Buchanan; great-grandchildren: Maddox and John Luke Clough, Maleah, Lucas and Mattie Crane, Avah, Josie, and Macie Horne.

 

Pallbearers will be Josh Clough, Carter Buchanan, Rocky Presley, Matthew Crane, Shannon Horne, Mark Guyton, and Chuck Carter.

 

Special thanks to Dr. Gurthie and Dr. Nabors at UAB Hospital, Dr. Castillo and staff at The Cancer Center.  Dr.Terry Perry and staff.  Amedisys Home Health and Amedisys Hospice for caring for him.  You are all very special people.  Tidmore Bend Fire Department, you are a blessing to our community.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to North Highland Baptist Church or Tidmore Bend Fire Department.

Family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm.
