James M. Penney Sr.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Sunday October 14, 2018 at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Chapel for James M. Penney Sr., age 91, of Glencoe. Charles Wells and Mayor Charles Gilchrist will officiate. Burial will follow at Hokes Bluff Cemetery. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home and Cemetery is in charge of services.
James met his Lord and savior October 11, 2018. He was born and raised in Hokes Buff Alabama. He was a member of First Baptist Church Glencoe for over 50 years and served as a deacon for several years. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Catron as a Seaman First Class and was in the invasion of Okinawa, Yomitan Beach 1945. He was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Honor November 5, 2014. He was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 10408. He proudly helped place the flags and memorial crosses to honor veterans. He was a proud veteran and loved his country. He loved Big Sky Hunting Club, fishing the Coosa and annual Snead Farm Dove Shoots. He was retired from Heckett Engineering.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Mary; son: Mike; mother: Fannie Bishop Penney; father: Henry Winston Penney; brother: Millard (MF) Penney; sister: Carolyn Penney.
He is survived by his son: Jimmy (Jane) Penney; daughter-in-law: Sandra Penney; daughter: Nila (Brian) Holland; daughter: Norma (Bill) Schiffman; sister: Martha Butler; sister-in-law: Bernice Penney; grandchildren: Jamie (Jason) Roberts, Shay (Emily) Penney, Gina Osborne, Alan (Lori) Marker, Lee (Jennifer) Marker, Alli Lett, Ashlie (Brian) Snead, Kaylin (Colin) Lancaster, Christa Garrett, Emily (Dillon) Ondo, Joey Schiffman; great grandchildren: Jakea, Dalton, Hunter, Lana, Connor, Derik, Eric, Hayden, Misty, Nathan, Ava, Abram, Porter, Lawson, Taylor, Brayden, Mary, Harley, Brock and Luke; great great grandchild: Jayton.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Wells, Mayor Charles (Peanut) Gilchrist, Johnny Watson, Ray St. John, Fellow VFW members, and Big Sky Hunting Club.
Special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, Jamie Battles, Meghan Kerr, Misty Williams, Janet Wilkie, David Jones, Jay Beggs and all other staff members. Very Special thanks to Mayor Charles (Peanut) Gilchrist and Kay Gilchrist for their friendship and all the love they shared, The Girls, Nancy and Barbara and all loving friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12:30-3:00 pm.
