Larry Eugene Smith

August 14, 1950 ~ February 11, 2019 (age 68)

Larry Eugene Smith, 68, passed away February 11, 2019, after an extended illness. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 11 AM at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 5-8 PM. The internment will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Larry’s sons will officiate.

Larry was a loving husband, father, poppa, and friend. He graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1968 and earned the honor of Eagle Scout. In college, Larry worked for the Gadsden Times in the Sports Department.  As a graduate of Auburn University in Electrical Engineering, he worked 42 years for Alabama Power. While employed there, Larry was a member of IEEE, National Energy Regulation Committee, and was instrumental in many advancements in Substation Automation and Fault Data Detection.

Larry served as a deacon at First Baptist Church Center Point, Birmingham, CrossPoint Church, Argo, and First Baptist Church Hokes Bluff. He also taught Sunday School for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed model trains, photography, woodworking/carving, and traveling.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Bullock Smith.

Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cecilia Morris Smith; his sons, Rev. Randy (Tiffany) Hokes Bluff; Rev. Andrew(Kimberly), Olive Branch, MS; Rev. Jonathan(Stacy) Wetumpka, AL. His grandchildren: Rebekah, Sarah Joy, Abigail, Katie Grace, Pace and Asher Smith; his brother, Mike(Vicky), Auburn, AL.; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Marla Morris, Hokes Bluff; mother-in-law, Joy Morris; aunts Loretta Sauls and Shirley Bullock; uncle, Charles Laminack.

Pallbearers will be Alvin Clemens, Allen Hudson, Pat Linn, Greg Morris, Edmond Sollie, Fred Waites, and Lamar Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers: Mark Holman, Frank Hunt, and deacons of First Baptist Church Hokes Bluff.

Special thanks to the staff of McGuffey Healthcare, Comfort Care Hospice, and nurses, Tonya and Emily.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Etowah Baptist Mission Center or Sanctuary/Hallelujah Fund of First Baptist Church Hokes Bluff.
