John Harold Wolfe, 78, of Hokes Bluff, died Sunday, April 15, 2018. Visitation will be at 1:30-2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home. A graveside service for family will follow.
John Wolfe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Angela Butler Wolfe; daughters, Marian Wolfe, Michelle (Marc) Golden; son-in-law, Larry Handy; grandchildren, Mark (Ashley) Handy, Leah Handy (Kurtis Hodge), John Robert Golden; and great-granddaughter, Flora Handy. He also leaves behind four fur babies, whom he loved dearly – Margo, Lucy, Rita and Sally Wolfe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James (J.T.) Wolfe and Gladys Edwards Wolfe, and brother Travis Wolfe.
John worshiped at Glencoe Church of Christ for many years. He loved his church family dearly and enjoyed fellowshipping with them as much as possible.
After graduating from Emma Sansom High School, John joined the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably. He often shared stories of adventure from his travels throughout the world. He was an avid shooting enthusiast. He enjoyed target shooting, bird hunting and clay shooting and spending time with his friends at the Owl’s Hollow Skeet and Shooting Range. He was a loyal fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed watching games with his family, especially his two grandsons.
John retired from Goodyear after 41 years of service, where he held both company and union positions. He was known around the plant as “Big John.”
Pallbearers will be Larry Handy, Mark Handy, Marc Golden, John Robert Golden and Kurtis Hodge.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Glencoe Church of Christ.
To honor John and his love of baseball, those wanting to are encouraged to wear Atlanta Braves clothing and ball caps to the visitation.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or charity of choice.
