Funeral services for John W. “Jay” Jones, 88, of Gadsden, who passed away on April 24, 2018, will be 2:00 PM Friday at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Chapel. Rev. Anthony Copeland of Emanuel Baptist Church in Hokes Bluff will officiate. Burial will follow at Centre Methodist Church Cemetery in Oneonta, AL. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge of the services.
Mr. Jones was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher. He graduated from the University of Alabama and served in the US Navy.
He was retired from Southern Company.
He is preceded in death by his father; James Samuel Jones, mother; Thelma Jones, brothers; Rev. Sam Jones and Bobby Jones, and sister; Martha Belyeu.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years; Glenda Murphree Jones, daughter; Sandra (Steve) Langford, sister; Mary Helen Collins, grandsons; Jeremy (Rebecca) Nelson, and Jamie (Kimberly)Moyer, great grandsons; Parker Moyer, and Jaxon Nelson, brother-in-law; Doug Belyeu, sister-in-law; Athelene Murphree Dorr and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks to his special niece; Lisa Lancaster and employees of Amedisys Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to time of service Friday at the funeral home.
