James S. "Jim" PutnamJune 29, 1941 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 76)
A private graveside service will held at Crestwood Cemetery, Sunday December 31, 2017 for James S. “Jim” Putnam, 76, of Glencoe. Mr. Putnam passed away Friday, December 29. Rev. Tim Diggs and Rev. Larry Brooks will officiate. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge.
Mr. Putnam was a native of and resided most of his life in Etowah County. He was a past president of the Glencoe Jaycee’s. He was a retired member of the Glencoe Volunteer Fire Department after many years of service. He was an avid Alabama Fan. James was a veteran of the US Army. He was a gifted musician and was a previous member of the 4th Army Band and also, served as an assistant band director at Glencoe High School. He loved his horses, dogs and cats.
James was a recent dedicated Christian.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Rev. James “Travis” Putnam and Gladys Putnam, sisters; Joan Brooks and Shirley Welch.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Tommie Bishop Putnam, daughter; Demetria Putnam Works, sister; Sandy ”Richard” Ponder, Cindy ”Paul” Smith and Debra “Dan” Meadows, brother; Ray Putnam, grandchildren; Kathryn Paige and Jon Austin Works, special niece; Jamie Putnam, special nephew; David Brooks, cousins; Randy (Lark) McClendon, sister-in-law; Luellyn (Eddy) Lassiter, and nephew; Chris (Sarah) Harbin and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Randy McClendon, Alan Wilson, Marlon Martin, Wayne Beasley, Norman Sherbert, and James Keeling.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Glencoe Volunteer Fire Department, James Hill, Travis Martin, Jerry Ellis, Dr. Ron Johnson & staff, Dr. Webb Sledge, & staff, Alacare Home Health and Hospice, Ray Faulkner, Greg Sims, DeWayne and Dawson Smith Monty Neeley, John Simpson Jr and Bessie Jane Crow.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Humane Society Pet Rescue Adoption Center, 4200 Brooke Ave. Gadsden, AL 35904.
A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date,
