Bettie Faye Miller Jones of Hokes Bluff passed into heaven on April 27, 2017. A graveside memorial service (weather permitting) will be held at Hokes Bluff Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Dr. Ryan Morris will be officiating. Dress comfortably. A time for personal memories will be included in the service.
Bettie was born on May 25, 1934, in Phenix City, Alabama. She was the second child of Will Neal Miller and Faye Elizabeth Norris Miller. She always had a desire to help others. After becoming a Christian, her life reflected the values in her spirit. She was faithful to her church. As a teenager, she assisted in the formation of a mission church and served in the children’s mission department. While working at the mission, she met the love of her life, Ellis J. Jones. He was coming to preach a practice sermon. It was not love at first sight, but at the age of 18, on Christmas Day 1952, they were married. They served as pastor and wife in many churches in Alabama, Kentucky, and Indiana. They raised 4 children, quail, pigs, cows, chickens, and anything that Bettie wanted to raise. Their life together was one of best friends and their time was spent on adventures between the beach and the mountains. They were great campers and truly lived to make each other happy.
Mother had a loving heart and a willing spirit to help anyone that she could. She was very generous with her time and money. At the age of 16, she earned the title of Miss Phenix City, so her beauty was not only internal but also external.
She created beautiful ceramic pieces, restful garden spaces, and needlework in many forms.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sisters Barbara Miller, Beverly Cole, and Brenda Lyons, her husband Rev. Ellis J. Jones, her son Ellis Eugene Jones, and her furry best friend of 16 years, Tom-Tom.
She leaves behind her children Diane (Ricky) Causey, Deborah (Richard Skipper) Jones, Glendon (Christine) Jones, and daughter-in-law, Mary Jones. Grandchildren include Tyler Causey, Brett (Lora) Causey, Allen (Heather) Jones, Kyle Jones, Eric Jones, and Jeff Kitchens. Bettie was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Billy (Ann) Miller and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank all those who were so kind to mother in her last years. Her caregivers and friends and church family meant so much to her and she cherished each act of kindness shown to her.
Memorials may be made to the Homebound Ministry at First Baptist Church of Hokes Bluff or to the Volunteer fire department of Hokes Bluff.
