Our beloved husband and father, Edgar Joe Keeling, 75, Glencoe, entered his Heavenly home on Monday, December 11, 2017. The funeral service will be at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home on December 15, 2017 with visitation for family at 11:00am, friends between 12:00pm and 2:00pm followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery following the service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Marion and Ruie Jean Carter Keeling; daughter, Lisa Sheryl Keeling; nephew, Michael Lynn Lankford.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Shirley McDonald Keeling, his daughters, Lana Paige Keeling-Mobley (David), Glencoe and Jennifer Keeling Wilson (Troy), WA; brothers-in-law, Bobby (Martha), Attalla, Jerry Wayne, GA, and Rodney McDonald, IN; sister-in-law, Kathy Palmer (Jeff), IN; grandchildren, Jessica Lara Mobley, Joshua Lawrence Mobley, Lucas Joe Wilson, and Maggie Claire Wilson; sister, Bess Lee Lankford Shiflett, GA; and nephews, Joel and Scott Lankford, GA.
Joe is a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County and longstanding member of First Baptist Church of Glencoe. He is a 1961 graduate of Glencoe High School and earned certification as an electrician from the Alabama School of Trades in 1963. He owned and operated Keeling TV which serviced Etowah and Cherokee Counties for over 31 years. Joe was a family man who enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching Alabama football, and, with a Pepsi in hand, sitting on the back deck observing birds at the feeder. A passionate gardener, he was always trying to grow the biggest and best tomato plants and has inspired a generation of vegetable and flower gardeners. Joe was a patient man who loved Jesus and was always willing to lend a hand.
Pallbearers will be: Jerry Bryant, Lance Cochran, Scott Lankford, Bobby McDonald, Jerry McDonald, Adam Palmer, and Andrew Palmer. Honorary: Carson Cochran and Dr. Steven Sanders and staff. A special thank you to Lisa Sims of Amedisys.
