Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM Wednesday April 26, 2017 at Union #3 Cemetery for Carl Edward Helms, 73, of Hokes Bluff who went to be with the Lord on April 23, 2017. Wayne Elliott will officiate. Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home & Cemetery is in charge of the services.
Mr. Helms retired from Goodyear with 33 years of service. He worked as a police officer for the City of Hokes Bluff. Carl loved Alabama football, Hokes Bluff football and baseball and enjoyed camping and traveling to the Smokey Mountains. His world revolved around his grandchildren. He was a member of Croft Ferry Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Alma Helms, sister; Carine Elliott, brother; FC Helms and great grandson; Lincoln Godfrey.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years; Debbie Helms, daughters; Mandi (Tim) Godfrey, Jamie (Michael) Lloyd, Misty (Rodney) McNew, grandchildren; Chad (Emily) Godfrey, Colton (Alex) Godfrey, Dock Lloyd, Shelby Lloyd, Courtney McNew, great grandchildren; Bryson, Eden and Carlee Godfrey and Kinley Garmany, special friends; Joe Allen, Carolyn Boatfield, Bobbi Reynolds, Jackie and Latisha Coffey and the late Billy Robertson.
Pallbearers will be Chad and Colton Godfrey, Tommy and Luke Godfrey, Kenon and Brody McKenzie, Phillip Harms and Jeff Key.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Hicks, Leonard Reynolds, Eddie Elliott, Jimmy and Hunter Coffey and Matt Hanks.
